"You can't expect everyone to sacrifice what you're willing to."
Inspired by the work of lesbian activists during the AIDS crisis in Toronto, 'Toronto, 1989' is the newest work from emerging playwright Aveleigh Keller. The story follows Steph, a lesbian volunteer as she spots Julia, a young woman hesitant to visit her dying brother in the hospital. As Steph and Julia converse and clash, Steph is taken through memories of her life which explore love, risk, heartbreak, and understanding.
The reading of this moving new work is the culmination of its' most recent development period at Icarus Theatre, though its evolution has stretched many years before today. The play is dramaturged by Nick Green (writer of 'Casey and Diana' at the Stratford Festival,) and directed by Anthony Goncharov. Get your tickets today to see this beautiful piece!
Our staff have been monitoring provincial and city regulations, and have used this information to create a COVID-19 Safety Package for visitors, artists, and staff while at Buddies.
