Planning for live theatre, let alone a festival in a pandemic has its unique challenges. For Rhubarb, we’re embracing smaller, safer gatherings in our theatre – and moving ahead with a limited capacity, extended version of the festival, Feb 4 - 13.
We’re inviting artists to participate in what we're calling a Bacterial Residency. Each day of the festival, an artist will have time to create and experiment in the space, including a small sharing with an intimate audience. There'll also be opportunities for audiences to visit Andrea Shin Ling's installation – Calculus of an infinite rot, part 1 – outside of performance times. Our staff have been monitoring provincial and city regulations, and have used this information to create a COVID-19 Safety Package for visitors, artists, and staff while at Buddies. Additionally, as mandated and in-line with provincial health guidelines, as of September 22, 2021 all guests will require proof of COVID-19 vaccination to attend Buddies events.
